Associate Alumnae of Douglass College (AADC)
Fact Sheet
- Created in 1922 by the first graduating class of the New Jersey College for Women (now Douglass College).
- Conceived and founded as a self-supporting organization, today the Association remains independent of the College and structured to broadly represent all alumnae.
- Incorporated in New Jersey in 1927, the Association obtained 501(c)(3) status in 1942.
- Every New Jersey College for Women and Douglass College graduate is a member of the AADC. Members now number more than 34,000.
- The mission of the AADC is to provide ongoing financial, programming, and communications support to Douglass College, her students and her alumnae, and to encourage and promote the unique educational experience and leadership opportunities at Douglass College, which are inherent in a women’s college.
Services Provided by the Associate Alumnae of Douglass College
College Support
- Provide student support through scholarships, fellowships, study abroad funding, academic prizes, and special opportunity funding.
- Established and manages endowment of more than $26 million.
- Provided more than $1.4 million in support in fiscal year 2005 and in fiscal year 2006, and more than $1.2 million in fiscal year 2004.
- In addition to support of more than $1.3 million, provided a unique gift of $1 million to the College in fiscal year 2003.
- Support hallmark programs such as Public Leadership Education Network, the Global Village, Shaping A Life, and the Douglass Project for Rutgers Women in Math, Science and Engineering.
- Founded and manage the award-winning AADC Extern Program, which provides an opportunity for Douglass College students to “try on a career for size,” working with Douglass alumnae and friends in a multitude of professions.
- Provide financial assistance for crucial Douglass initiatives such as the International Certificate Program, Pre-Law and Health Professions advising, the Bunting Program for non-traditional age students and improvements to campus facilities.
Development
- Fundraise from alumnae, parents and friends in support of the mission of the Associate Alumnae of Douglass College.
- Cultivate, solicit and steward gifts to the AADC and The Douglass Fund through the Douglass Annual Fund, major giving and capital campaigns, and deferred giving.
- Raised more than $29 million for Douglass College in the recent Rutgers University Capital Campaign.
Communications
- Produce the Douglass Alumnae News three times each year for all alumnae and friends.
- Produce the semi-annual Douglass Alumnae Magazine, including Class Notes, for all contributors.
- Maintain the Douglass Alumnae Web site that provides information on programs offered by the Associate Alumnae, individual class reunions, fellowships for students and alumnae, and much more. The Web site also provides a mechanism for alumnae to update their address or make a gift to Douglass College.
Programs
- Produce dozens of programs for alumnae, students and friends of the College, including the Douglass Reunion, Founders Day and visiting lecturers. These programs afford opportunities for alumnae to return to campus, keep connected to Douglass College, and interact with other alumnae, current students, staff and faculty.
- Coordinate awards programs to honor alumnae, both for service to their alumnae association and for their distinguished careers. Coordinate awards programs to honor faculty, staff and other individuals for their support of Douglass College.
