BUSINESS COALITION LAUNCHES NEW JERSEY SCHOLARS PROGRAM
Trenton, NJ, Feb. 4 -- On February 9th, the Gloucester City School District will introduce parents to an important educational initiative that will enable their children to choose the right course for future success in college and in tomorrow’s workplace.
The New Jersey Scholars program, which is being introduced across the state by the Business Coalition for Educational Excellence (BCEE) at the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, encourages students to challenge themselves by taking academically rigorous courses in high school. A comprehensive research study shows a direct relationship between demanding high school courses, college completion rates, and success in the workplace.
The New Jersey Scholars Course of Study includes: four years of English, three years of math (algebra I and II and geometry), three years of lab science (biology, chemistry and physics), 3 years of social studies, one semester of economics, and two years of the same foreign language.
“We believe that the New Jersey Scholars Program will improve student performance in high school and help all students achieve their fullest potential. The program is also the perfect complement to the programs we already have in place that are positively impacting education in our state and therefore, building our future workforce,” said Dana Egreczky, vice president at the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce. “Over the next two months, the BCEE will also debut the program in Audubon (Camden County) and in North Bergen and Union City (Hudson County). New Jersey Scholars, like all of our student programs, encourages students to learn more and do more so they can eventually earn more," she explained.
The meeting will be held on Monday, February 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the Gloucester City High School Auditorium.
In addition to the New Jersey Scholars Program offered by Business Coalition for Education Excellence, eleven other business organizations around the country are focusing on strategies to bring about sustained high school improvement.
They are in Arkansas, Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and Washington.
