Prudential New Jersey Properties' Summit office collecting for Jersey Cares’ 13th annual coat drive

Company joins forces with the North Central Jersey Association of REALTORS®
and Columbia High School to benefit families-in-need

SUMMIT, NJ (December 18, 2008) – Through Jersey Cares’ 13th annual coat drive, Prudential New Jersey Properties’ Summit office is currently collecting coats, along with other winter items, to benefit at-risk individuals.

The office – located at 429 Springfield Avenue – will accept donations of gently used coats, gloves, scarves, sweaters, and hats through Jan. 14. Working in conjunction with the North Central Jersey Association of REALTORS® and Columbia High School in Maplewood, the Prudential associates and brokers will transport the items to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.

“In light of today’s economic environment, it’s especially important that we come together as a community to help provide for individuals who need some extra care this year,” says Susan Falk, Prudential New Jersey Properties’ Summit associate. “It’s our goal to spread some holiday cheer and warmth.”

The coat drive comes on the heels of a variety of ongoing projects that the Summit office has spearheaded within the community. Most recently, the office collected items for babies and toddlers for the ABC Area Baby Center. In addition, the Summit brokers and associates donated their time in early December to guide local residents through the Holiday House Tour to benefit Reeves-Reed Arboretum.

More information about the coat drive is available by contacting Falk at the company’s Summit office, 908-273-0400, ext. 232.

Gaining Exposure During the Holiday Season
Prudential New Jersey Properties’ Morristown broker
offers real estate tips for home sellers in December and January

MORRISTOWN, NJ (December 2, 2008) – Have no fear home sellers, the holiday season is here.

While real estate agents have traditionally advised clients to take houses off the market for the holidays, professionals across the board are now singing a different tune.

“Buyers who are looking for a home during the holidays are serious and are ready to make a purchase,” says Jeff Halpern, broker and manager of Prudential New Jersey Properties’ Morristown office. “There’s less inventory and the property can potentially sell for more money. And in most cases, the seller does not have to move out until January or February.”

With more than 20 years of experience in the realty industry, Halpern is also an active member of the National Association of REALTORS®, the New Jersey Association of REALTORS®, and the North Central Jersey Association of REALTORS®, where he currently serves as a trustee.

“Sellers should not be afraid to take advantage of the market during the holiday months,” says Halpern. “With the proper preparation and assistance from a real estate professional, a home can be properly staged to show better and attract buyers.”

Halpern notes four main points for sellers to consider while listing their home during the holiday season:

• List Early: By listing during November or December, a home gains vital exposure. With fewer properties on the market during the holiday season, there is less competition for the seller.
• Availability: During the busy holiday season, it is important to allow time for the house to be shown. A broker can schedule times for showings that are convenient for both the buyer and seller.
• Curb Appeal: Make sure all walkways are shoveled and clear of snow and ice. Make the home look inviting by placing a festive wreath on the front door and a holiday doormat. Be sure to not overdo holiday decorating; but a few exterior decorations or lights can show pride in ownership and seasonal cheer.
• Decorate: Tasteful decorations can increase the appeal of the property and draw serious buyers in. Keep indoor decorations neat and tasteful, while being careful to keep the home free of clutter and maximizing space. Setting the thermostat to a comfortable temperature or lighting a fire in the fireplace can make a home feel cozy and welcoming to buyers.

Information on home buying and selling in the area, access to all real estate-related services, and details on the Prudential Advantage are available by contacting Halpern at the Morristown office, 17 Elm Street, at 973-538-5555.
